Founder, Master Jeweler

Fausto Argueta

Fausto’s journey in the jewelry industry is truly inspiring. Born and raised in Guatemala, he immigrated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1964, chasing the American dream. By 1967, Fausto had already established himself as a master goldsmith, working with all types of precious stones and metals. His exceptional skills led him to provide trade work for prestigious companies like Smyth Jewelers, The Stieff Company, Oscar Caplan & Son, Inc., and H.C. Nelson & Company from 1968 to 1976.

In 1977, Fausto relocated to California, where he continued his craft as a self-employed goldsmith, offering his services to Richard Jewelers and Hudson & Goodman until 1987. His journey came full circle when he decided to move back to Maryland. There, he continued his work with renowned jewelers such as Melart Jewelers, Shaws Jewelers, Littman Jewelers, and S&N Katz Jewelers.

The pinnacle of Fausto’s career came in 1997 when he opened F&L Jewelers, Inc., a family store dedicated to selling custom-made and unique pieces of jewelry. I've been immersed in the family jewelry business for 30 years. My journey began at the age of 16, assisting my father by picking up and delivering jewelry repairs between stores and traveling to trade shows. These early experiences sparked my interest in the jewelry industry. After high school, I pursued an AA degree in Business Administration at Harford Community College. My passion for gems led me to Carlsbad, California, where I earned a two-year degree as a Graduate Gemologist.

I fell in love with the intricate world of gems, fascinated by how they grow and form into perfect, beautiful crystals. Eager to return to the family business, I brought back a wealth of knowledge. Over the years, l've worn many hats-selling, buying gold, handling repairs, managing special orders, and conducting inventory. For the past 20 years, l've specialized in appraising jewelry, with a particular passion for antique pieces. The extraordinary design, craftsmanship, and history of these heirlooms captivate me.

My name is Sergio Grovanny Guato Rivas, and I was born on October 26, 1972, in the beautiful city of Cuenca, Ecuador. From a young age, I was drawn to the world of creativity and craftsmanship. After completing my primary and secondary education, I discovered a profound passion for jewelry making at the age of 14. This pivotal moment came when I met Mr. Wilfrido Pazmiño, a talented master jeweler who lived in my neighborhood. He was a teacher at the local jewelry school, and under his guidance, I embarked on a journey that would shape my life.

In July 1986, I began my formal training in the art of jewelry. The lessons I learned from Mr. Pazmiño were not just about techniques; they instilled in me the values of creativity, responsibility, and discipline. These qualities became the foundation of my work ethic, driving me to pursue excellence in every piece I create.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work in vibrant cities such as New York, Philadelphia, and Miami, each offering unique experiences that enriched my craft. Currently, I reside in Maryland, where I am proud to be part of F&L Jewelers, one of the most prestigious jewelry establishments in Harford County. Here, I have the opportunity to collaborate with a talented team and share my knowledge and skills with others passionate about this art form.

Every day in the workshop presents new challenges and opportunities for growth. I am committed to continuously learning and refining my craft, as I believe that true mastery comes from a lifelong dedication to improvement. Jewelry making is not just my profession; it is my calling, and I strive to create pieces that resonate with beauty and meaning.

As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the mentors, experiences, and opportunities that have shaped me into the jeweler I am today. I look forward to continuing this journey, creating exquisite works of art that inspire and delight
